When the PacWest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee added a children's hospital visit to its annual retreat in Honolulu, Levy Recognition was asked to create a meaningful gift for young patients facing cancer and other serious illnesses. The solution needed to feel personal, comforting, and appropriate for the setting. It also had to be sourced, customized, produced, and delivered from California to Hawaii in less than seven days.
A Gift Built Around the Moment
The original request centered on basketballs and other sports-themed gifts. Levy reframed the idea around the children receiving them, recommending soft teddy bears that could offer comfort during the visit and remain with each patient afterward.
The team quickly identified a manufacturer capable of meeting the compressed production schedule and created custom PacWest Conference T-shirts for each bear, turning a simple plush gift into something specific to the experience.
From Request to Reality in Under a Week
With only days between the initial request and the hospital visit, sourcing, branding, production, and delivery moved almost simultaneously. Within the first two days, the hospital visit was confirmed and the concept shifted from basketballs to branded teddy bears. By days three and four, a manufacturer had been secured and production of the custom PacWest shirts was underway. The completed bears were ready to leave California the Monday before the Tuesday event.
Solving the Shipping Challenge
Production was only part of the equation. The final challenge was moving the finished bears from California to Oahu before the 1:00 PM hospital visit the following afternoon. When the manufacturer raised concerns about the delivery window, Levy's internal shipping team stepped in. A dedicated overnight, early-morning shipping label was arranged to place the shipment on the earliest available flight, closing the final gap between production and event day.
Delivered When It Mattered
The custom teddy bears arrived in Honolulu on time, allowing PacWest SAAC student-athletes to distribute them personally during the hospital visit and spend time reading with the children. The response made the effort worthwhile. Hospital staff and conference leadership described the visit as a highlight of the retreat, while the student-athletes shared that connecting with the children and giving them the bears was one of the most meaningful experiences of the trip.
