Employee engagement is important to the success of every business. At Levy Recognition, we take every opportunity to keep our staff engagement levels at an all time high. What better way to boost employee engagement, improve communication, and introduce a little friendly competition than to participate in Fantasy Football?
The Levy League was established in 2017. During the inaugural season of the league we set goals to improve employee engagement and enhance workplace relationships. Our goal was to utilize Fantasy Football to boost employee morale and strengthen relationships across departments. Through 11 weeks of intense game play, we saw drastic improvement in how participating employees engaged with one and other. Relationships across departments have strengthened and everyone has an improved sense of teamwork.
So what’s new for the 2018 season?
Increased Participation
Ten teams are participating in the Levy League this year. Three of the participating team managers have never been part of the Levy League before and one team manager is playing Fantasy Football for the first time ever.
Just as company leaders play an important role in encouraging employee involvement in the workplace, league commissioners are a big part in drumming up excitement for the fantasy season. No matter the event, early promotion is key. Get your employees excited to participate in company events and engagement activities by posting flyers, sending email invites, and sharing details about the event through word of mouth communication.
Whole Company Bonding
The Levy League may only have ten team managers, but there is an open invitation for every LMA employee to attend league get-togethers. Last year, league meetings were few, but during the 2018 season, it is our goal to gather the league and league supporters a few Sundays out of the season to watch football and enjoy spending time together outside of the workplace.
Any business leader knows that it is extremely difficult to ask employees to give up their weekend for a work event. To tackle this challenge, event organizers should make weekend participation optional. Invite employees to be part of the fun, but do not make it mandatory. Required attendance only discourages employee engagement and creates disgruntled feelings. Keep weekend events casual and open, allowing employees to come and go as they have time. If possible, allow employees to bring their families to encourage even more participation.
Timely Recognition
The inaugural season of the Levy League was a little disorganized to say the least. We had no idea what we were going to do to reward the league champion and as a recognition solutions provider, this was a terrible thing! For an entire year, we were so busy with the recognition needs of our clients, we forgot to fulfill our own.
But not this year!
This year, Levy League participants will be competing for a brand-new, custom designed Fantasy Football Levy League Championship Trophy! Even those not participating as a team manager are inspired by the new trophy. Employees ooh and aww over it as they pass it in the display area of the workplace. It serves as a motivator and conversation starter for all.
By introducing a little friendly competition in the workplace, employees are motivated to work harder and be more productive. Perpetual trophies are a great way to recognize individuals or teams for a variety of accomplishments.
Whether given to an employee of the month, or a top performing sales team, perpetual recognition should be given to the awardee as soon as possible. Employees who are recognized right away for their accomplishments are more likely to feel better appreciated and more connected to the workplace. Having their name displayed on a perpetual trophy for all to see will have them beaming with pride.
For most, Fantasy Football is just a friendly pastime. For the Levy League, it teaches us new ways to improve our workplace culture and grow as a work family.
